    A horizontal shift (also called a left or right shift) moves the entire graph left or right along the x-axis. A vertical shift (or up/down shift) moves the graph up or down along the y-axis.
    A reflection flips the graph over the x-axis (even function) or y-axis (odd function). To identify, look for symmetry about the line of reflection.
    Stretching and compressing transformations change the distance between the functions y-values (vertical stretch/compression) or x-values (horizontal stretch/compression) without changing the overall shape.
    The direction of a transformation (left/right, up/down, etc.) and its magnitude (distance of shift, factor of stretch/compression) can often be determined from the given transformed function or graph.
